Reham Khan explains why her marriage with Imran Khan ended

The 42 year old divorcee told the Guardian why her marriage with Imran Khan ended earlier this month.

5000

I have been asked constantly why my marriage ended after just 10 months: was it because of the media scrutiny? Or was it the interference of Imran’s advisors? Is it possible that family disapproval played a part? The answer: none of the above.

A bond that is strong can withstand any attack, rumour or pressure. It was no one but us who were responsible for the relationship’s breakdown. We are both mature adults who, between us, have an accumulated wisdom of more than a hundred years. It happened because we allowed it to happen. In the absence of any serious differences of opinion or unreasonable demands, if a bond breaks that easily, it means it has not been cemented together with strong communication.

Reham also claims that marrying Imran Khan meant that the whole country became her susral (in laws).   It is common for women in Pakistan to complain of their mother in laws or sister in laws to interfere in relationships but marrying the Politician meant the whole country was interfering in their relationship.

Catch Up With Noreen Khan

As I’m obsessed with radio and music since childhood, I thought why not interview a radio personality and who would be better than DJ Noreen Khan from the BBC Asian Network.

But before you read my chit chat with her, let’s see why Noreen Khan is so fabulous, she really is.

1).  She has a weekday radio show on the BBC Asian Network from 13:30 to 17:00, awarded the “Best Radio Show” at the Asian Media Awards 2015.

2).  When she’s not on air, she’s running her businesses.

3). She’s danced on stage with Shahrukh Khan.  These Khans!

4).  She loves horses….

5).  And Madhuri….

6).  Noreen is obsessed with Banana Cakes!

7). Not as much as she’s obsessed with Liverpool FC.

8). So much that she wore the first and probably the only LFC Saree.

9).  She loves her Bollywood and retro stuff that she even possesses a Meena Kumari denim jacket.

10). And her all time favourite lady is Manroe..

Here goes the chit chat:

I always hear phrases like “The Queen of Asian Radio” and “There is no Asian Network without Noreen Khan” which is a great reputation you’ve earned over the 12 years in Presenting and almost 8 with BBC Asian Network, how do you feel? Did you ever think you would get this far when you were may be at school?

I honestly never thought I would hear phrases like this! It’s obviously really lovely and it’s all down to my loyal listeners who have helped the show to become a real success.

Many Asian parents tend to hope their children pursue a career in Medical field, Law or Engineering. I am guessing this was expected from you too?

Actually it wasn’t at all. I’m very fortunate I have totally cool parents who never pushed us into any particular careers. They always said we’ll support you in whatever makes you happy which is why I love them so much.

I believe there is a lack of young girls in British Pakistani community who want to pursue a career in Media, be it acting, presenting or singing etc. Why do you think that is and how could this be changed?

This could be a cultural thing as it’s not always considered the first choice for many parents for their daughters to go into media or acting and this can then prevent them from pursuing a career in this field.

So what would be your advice be to young Asian youngsters in wanting a career in Radio?

If you’re passionate about it and really want to do it I’m sure you can win your parents round. Just don’t give up.

Congratulations on launching your own businesses, Noreen Khan Couture and NK Accessories. What has the feedback been like?

It’s been fantastic and I’d like to thank everyone out there who has supported the ventures so well!

How often are you adding new items to your fashion line and can we expect something for the poor boys too soon?

I’ve had a lot of messages from my male followers on twitter asking for a male range in clothing and accessories so it’s something I will definitely look into!

So what’s next? Surely career and life goals don’t end here?

It never stops with me, I’m always looking to the next thing. If you stop life becomes stagnant and a little dull, well for me anyway. I have a few plans but nothing that I can divulge just yet I’m afraid.

If you were approached by Karan Johar for a leading role in his next, what would your response be?

A big yes! Gotta OK it with my mum first though hahahaha.

You went to the same school as singer Nafees, tell us more about it? How was he like at school? Were you friends?

I was in the same year as his sister and she was a good friend…I just remember Nafees being an energetic happy young lad!

I believe you and Tommy Sandhu from the Asian Network for filming in LA quite a while ago, can you give a hint on what it was for?

Yes we filmed a pilot out there for a potential dating show where we help American women find a suitable partner using our desi tactics!

Something nobody knows about you?

I eat way too many cakes and biscuits and like adding mayonnaise in my curry!

Many ladies would be interested in knowing the secret to your long hair, any tips?

Use natural hair oils like almond and coconut oil. Drink lots of water and don’t put too much heat on your via hairdryers, straighteners etc.

What is your most embarrassing moment?

Can’t say!

Which three people (famous or otherwise) would you most like to invite to a dinner party?

Jurgen Klopp, Madhuri Dixit and Russell Brand…imagine us 4 round a table!!

Your most favourite present day singer from Bollywood?

I love Shreya Ghosal’s voice, she’s awesome.

How can readers interact with you and perhaps tune into your show?

I’m on twitter and Instagram as DJNoreenKhan and on Fbook as just Noreen Khan.

Finally, which blog site should everyone be reading?

Obviously The Brown Lad!

Why the food in Barcelona is one of the best in Europe…

1). You can’t come to Barcelona and go back without trying Paella.  Almost every eatery you go to, they do Paella, including Indian restaurants!

2).  Here’s another one!

3).  The world famous La Boqueria Market is in Barcelona. Everywhere you go, it’s truly a paradise for the senses.

4). The mini croissants freshly made and served in Cafe’s are something else.

5).  And if you fancy Turkish, there are plenty of Turkish restaurants offering mouth watering Turkish dishes, all halal.

Catch Up With Bambi Bains

1). What is Bambi up to these days?

I am hustling… although I may not be showing it, I have been working on a lot of projects low key and will announce everything soon!

2). Which month are you hoping to drop your next single?

Hopefully by end of September/ start of October.

3). Aside from music, what else do you have planned career wise?

I am interested in teaching KS4 and also thinking about opening my own line of makeup and clothing very soon.

4). As an Asian female in the music industry, what is the biggest obstacle you faced?

The biggest obstacle I’ve faced is switching from singing in English to fluent Punjabi when I have never sung in Punjabi in my life before. I was 16 when I had to start teaching myself and slowly got the hang of it. Sometimes, I’ve felt like I wasn’t good enough to be an artist because I was put down a lot at times. Any opinions or ideas I addressed, was never taken into account. I guess it’s because I’m seen as a young female, and because of that, I’m not taken seriously. We are often told that we can’t do certain things because we are women, but I think we are very underestimated. There have been times where I wanted to give up, but I didn’t because I believe I can aim higher. But I’m sticking to my guns and I’m about to break barriers for Asian women and show not only the industry, but also the world how capable we actually are.

5). How was it like working with PBN?
It was good, I have learn’t a lot about Punjabi music and have had great experiences during tours.

Having a mentor who is already established is helpful because you have a little fast track into the industry and you’re not having to start right from the bottom.

6). The most important piece of advice you would give to any brown girl wanting to pursue a “non traditional” career?

Though it may be tempting, never sign to a label unless it’s huge and extremely established. Research everything you need to know about music beforehand. Be a businesswoman as well as having a musical talent. And NEVER keep all of your eggs in one basket. Have a degree, or a side job, something to fall back on as music is never a guarantee. But most of all, enjoy it, remain humble and never let anyone bring you down… just stay positive and headstrong.

7). Do you think there is misogyny in Asian music industry?
Yes, especially between males. I think this is because of jealousy and greed mainly, which is a shame. But I stay away from all that, it’s childish.

8). Now that you have been rubbing shoulders with Sharukh Khan, can we expect you to be on the big screen?

I wish! You can definitely expect something in a British film from me soon, but I have not crossed the Bollywood market…yet.

9). Three things people do not know about you?
– My favourite drink is milk.

– I’m a quiet person most of the time, and love being alone sometimes. Just a home girl.

– I was on the X Factor when I was 16 years old.

10). Can you tell about a childhood memory that still haunts you?
Seeing my mum and dad separate when I was 5. Worst experience I’ve ever faced.

11). If you had the opportunity, would you enter Big Brother?
Never. I never watch Big Brother and I think reality TV shows are ridiculous. There’s no point watching other peoples lives when we have lives of our own to focus on.

12). Who do you think is the best dressed man in Hollywood?

David Beckham

13). Nandos or a Desi Restaurant?

Nandos

TWO SISTERS TO BE RAPED AS PUNISHMENT

468x283-dalitwomen

Amnesty International: The sisters are from a village in Baghpat district in India. There, on 30 July, an unelected all-male village council (khap panchayat) ordered that they be raped and paraded naked, their faces blackened, as punishment for the actions of their brother.

The sisters and their family had already fled the village in May for fear of reprisals for their brother’s actions – he eloped with a married woman from a dominant caste (Jat). Shortly after they left their house was ransacked.

Sumit Kumar, another brother of Meenakshi says that members of the Jat caste are powerful members of the village council, ‘the Jat decision is final’.

Meenakshi has filed a petition with the Supreme Court asking for protection, and her father has lodged a complaint with two national bodies saying that both his family has been harassed not just by the family of the eloped woman (who are of the dominant caste and therefore influential), but also by the police.

They are also worried about the safety of the Jat woman, who is now thought to be pregnant with Meenakshi’s brother’s child.

My personal reaction was why are we even having to do this?  Is there nobody sane left living in the same country as these two girls who can stop it out of 1.2 billion in the country?

Amnesty claim the petition will make the local authorities to intervene, but the question is why do the local authorities even need so many thousand signatures to stop this sickening act? Could this not be done instantly?

You can sign the petition here:

Mushin Ahmed passed away overnight after what is believed to be a racially motivated attack in the early hours of Monday 10th August 2015.  It is also reported that the 81 year old was walking to the Mosque for Fajr prayer (first of the five Muslim prayers of the day).

This unfortunate incident is not the first and sadly will not be the last as the hatred towards everyday Muslims in Britain is at its peak.

Tommy Robinson Arrested Again And The Reaction Is Hilarious…

The former so called English Defence League (EDL) leader has been arrested again – just five weeks after he was recalled to Peterborough prison.

It is yet unclear why the 32 year old has been arrested as Bedforshire Police are yet to make a statement.  My guess is he will probably be released very soon.

Let’s take a look at the reaction of some people…

1. David Cameron got threatened by Andrew!

2. “Truthman” claims the Police is so “dirty” and “corrupt.”  He must know if he’s the truth man.

3. Pete hopes they go deep and hard in his ass in Prison.  No comment.

4. Who nicked Tom’s biscuits this afternoon?

5. Probably not Marco, but the two cheeks of the same ass might meet each other supposing Robinson is charged and imprisoned.

6. Jack also tweeted.  Yes, Islam is taking over UK, you better hurry up and get back to this Island to save it Jack!  – Notice the location.

7. Took me a while to understand his/her Lingo.  It is very true that anyone of us who breaks the law can go to prison.  Indeed!
